Patient Preps

Our medical practice is complete with a fully accredited and comprehensive cardiac and vascular imaging and stress lab. The cardiovascular lab is directed by physicians board-certified in nuclear and ultrasound techniques, and staffed by licensed, certified and experienced technologists. Accurate imaging is critical for successful diagnosis and management in cardiac disease

Abdominal Aortic/IVC Duplex Scan
Nothing by mouth 6 hours prior to test. This test will be 1-2 hours long. Take Gas-X as directed the night before and the morning of the study.

Cardiac PET Imaging
If your test is scheduled prior to noon nothing to eat or drink (except water) after midnight, and do not take your diabetic medication the morning of your test. If your test is scheduled after noon nothing to eat or drink (except water) for 6 hours prior to test, and only cereal or toast prior to the 6 hour time frame. No caffeine or decaffeinated products 24 hours prior to your test. No tobacco products 12 hours prior to your appointment. DO take Beta Blockers. DO NOT take Theodur (Theophylline) or Persantine (Dipyridamole) 48 hours prior to your test, and bring medications with you on the day of your test. All other medications are allowed unless instructed otherwise. If you have a rescue inhaler, such as Albuterol, Proventil, or Maxair, bring with you the day of your test. An IV is required for this test. You will be required to lie on the exam table for approximately 45-60 minutes with your arms raised above your head. Please let us know if you are not able to do this prior to your test date. Please let us know if you are claustrophobic. This test will take approximately 1 1/2 hours. If you are claustrophobic please be sure to notify your physician and/or staff in order for proper arrangements to be made.

Dobutamine Nuclear Stress Test (Myocardial Perfusion Test)
Nothing by mouth (except water) for 4 hours before your test. No caffeine or decaffeinated products 24 hours prior to your test, must be caffeine free products. Do not take Beta Blockers the evening before or the morning of the test. If your appointment is before noon, do not take diabetic medication the morning of test. All other medications are allowed unless instructed otherwise. If unsure about medications, please check with your doctor or pharmacist. An IV is required for this test. This test will be approximatley 3-4 hours. 24 hr cancellation is required.

Dobutamine Stress Echo
Nothing by mouth (except water) for 4 hours before your test. Do not take Beta Blockers the evening before or the morning of the test. If your appointment is prior to noon, do not take diabtetic medication the morning of test. All other medications are allowed unless instructed otherwise. If unsure about medications, please check with your doctor or pharmacist. An IV is required for this test. This test will be approximately 1 - 11/2 hours.

Exercise Nuclear Stress Test (Myocardial Perfusion Test)
Nothing to eat or drink (except water) for 4 hours before your test. If your appointment is prior to noon, do not take diabetic medications the morning of test. No caffeine or decaffeinated products 24 hours prior to your test, must be caffeine free. No tobacco products 12 hours before your appointment. DO NOT take Beta Blockers 24 hours prior to your test; bring medications with you on the day of your test. All other medications are allowed unless instructed otherwise. An IV is required for this test.This test will be approximately 3-4 hours. You will be walking on a treadmill, please wear appropriate shoes. A 24 hour cancellation notice is required.

Lexiscan/Adenosine Nuclear Stress Test (Myocardial Perfusion Test)
Nothing to eat or drink (except water) for 4 hours before your test. If your appointment is prior to noon, do not take diabetic medications the morning of test. No caffeinated or decaffeinated products 24 hours prior to your test (caffeine-free products only). No tobacco products 12 hours before your appointment. DO take Beta Blockers. DO NOT take Theodur (Theophylline) or Persantine (Dipyridamole) 48 hours prior to your test and bring medications with you on the day of your test. Renal Artery Duplex
Nothing by mouth 6 hours prior to test (NPO). Medication with water is acceptable. Take Gas-X as directed the night before and the morning of the study.

Stress Echo
Nothing by mouth (except water) for 4 hours before your test. Do not take Beta Blockers the evening before or the morning of the test. If your appointment is prior to noon, do not take diabetic medication the morning of the test. All other medications are allowed unless instructed otherwise. If unsure about medications, please check with your doctor or pharmacist. The test will be approximatley 1 - 1 ˝ hours.

Treadmill (walking)
Nothing to eat or drink (except water) for 4 hours before your test. If your appointment is prior to noon, do not take diabetic medications the morning of test. Other medications are to be taken as directed by the office at the time appointment is made. The test will be approximately 45 minutes. Wear appropriate shoes to walk on treadmill.

No prep is required for the following test unless instructed otherwise:
• Peripheral Venous Studies • Arterial Studies • Echo • Carotid Ultrasound • Holter Monitor


If you have been scheduled for a cardiology Nuclear Stress Test and you fail to keep this appointment or cancel without a 24 hour notice a deposit of $150 will be required prior to rescheduling.
